PRESIDENT KOROMA COMMISSIONS NEW OFFICE FOR KAILAHUN DISTRICT COUNCIL

The Decentralisation Secretariat of the Institutional Reform and Capacity Building Project is facilitating the construction of offices for all Local Councils in a bid to have them working in a congenial atmosphere.

The President, Ernest Bai Koroma, on Sunday February 7 officially opened the newly constructed office building for the Kailahun District Council.

The event climaxed activities spanning a period of four days during which the president toured parts of the Bo, Kenema and Kailahun Districts. The tour aimed at demonstrating the government’s solidarity with local people in those regions as manifested in the implementation of various development projects, including those facilitated as part of the country’s decentralisation agenda.

The newly built office complex for Kailahun District Council is the latest to be completed in the on-going drive to have such offices built for all Local Councils in Sierra Leone.

Like those already constructed for at least 13 other Local Councils, the new Kailahun office complex comprises an ultra modern meeting hall, very spacious offices, a canteen and adequate toilet facilities.

The president was visibly impressed as he went on a guided tour of the office complex after cutting the tape and officially declaring the building open. He was led on the tour by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Local Government and Rural Development, Dauda Kamara, the Director of the Decentralisation Secretariat, Alhassan Kanu and the Chairman of Kailahun District Council, Tom Nyuma.

President Koroma also commissioned two newly built support structures to the Kailahun Court Barri. The project was part of a special effort by the Ministry of Finance, to aid the decentralisation programme by implementing key projects considered of extreme relevance to local development.
